Marketing Assistant @ I provide administrative and technological support to the 4th Estate and William Collins (non-fiction and religion) marketing team, and run campaigns across both imprints, as well as the New Naturalist Library strand of William Collins. My first campaign was for director David Cronenberg's debut novel ‘Consumed’. I was able to create partnerships with film companies and distributors, broadening the reach of this title. Other campaigns include screenwriter Will Smith’s debut novel ‘Mainlander’, ‘MUNNU’, a Kashmir based graphic novel, and ‘Barbara the Slut’ a debut collection of short stories by Lauren Holmes. The strength of this online marketing campaign was picked up by Emerald Street.
I maintain the 4th Estate social media channels. Since joining 4th Estate, I've helped to bring in over 10K new followers. I run and manage content on the 4th Estate website (http://www.4thestate.co.uk), providing content and copy, as well as writing and commissioning fresh, innovative, topical ideas within the literature world.
Other aspects of my role include, but are not limited to:
-Creating online forms using Silverpop
-Creating and distributing the monthly 4th Estate newsletter
-Creating and editing the William the 4th catalogue (using inDesign)
-Working with POWA to design and maintain the New Naturalist Library newsletter outreach
-Managing work experience placements and graduates
-Interviewing authors for web/social content
-Compiling the monthly key accounts presentation/ pitching key titles to the HarperCollins sales team
-Commissioning the design and production of fliers, tote bags, roller banners etc
-Interviewing and editing author focused podcasts for 4th Estate
-Working with film companies on our tie-ins, ensuring that communication and implementation of cross-promotion is smooth
I am part of the HarperCollins Diversity forum, and have presented our goals to the Executive board, as well as other divisions across the company From March 2014 to Present (1 year 8 months) London, United KingdomEditorial Assistant @ In this temporary role I was able to engage in a number of tasks on a daily basis; Checking eBooks for consistency, correcting, editing and cross-checking texts using BSi symbols, raising and filing Payment Request documents and compiling and updating rights databases. I would obtain rights and permissions, check jacket proofs and check prelims, endlims and indexes, making and passing relevant changes onto production.
My administrative tasks allowed me to photocopy manuscripts, organise mail-outs, collate documents, order materials and books and arrange couriers. I would compose updating and amending spreadsheets also. In terms of editorial tasks, I would read new material, write accompanying reader reports, and compose and send rejection and acceptance letters. I would proof-read and edit manuscripts, compile and update keywords and metadata for books, gather sales figures, in-house and competitor, compose and update Title Information sheets, and update the in-house database system Biblio where necessary.
The entire Random House workforce attended their annual sales conference for three days while I was editorial assistant; in these three days I was able to man the entire Vintage Books editorial, marketing and publicity department on my own; a challenge that I thoroughly enjoyed! From February 2014 to March 2014 (2 months) Marketing Internship @ In two short weeks I was able to undertake a plethora of tasks, including: posting media content from 4th Estate Twitter account, writing reader reports on prospective manuscripts, uploading/editing content to website platform as main text and in HTML, promoting news articles and books via social media, editing non-fiction novels and checking content. I assisted with marketing and publicity proposals, researched and contacted target companies, brainstormed working titles for manuscripts and updated various databases- film and author. I was also able to pitch key accounts to potential reviewers, manage a press release & resulting mail-out, compose press releases for key accounts. I
updated the 4th Estate website with content, checked and amended reprints. From January 2014 to January 2014 (1 month) London, United KingdomMarketing Internship @ I worked very closely with the Melville House marketing director, assisting with editorial and administrative tasks including: marketing database composition and management, researching specific press and consumer audience, writing reader reports on prospective manuscripts, brainstorming marketing and publicity campaigns, composing newsletters using MailChimp software. I collaborated with the director on sales presentations, compiled and distributing promotional mailings, wrote copy for press releases and newsletter, as well as identifying and prioritising key accounts, helping to prepare for sales conferences and the collating and writing of press releases. From 2013 to 2013 (less than a year) LondonSub Editor @ Freelance work at the Guardian Guide. Tasks included but were not limited to:
-Editing the weekly club, TV and radio listings
-Writing copy for the Guide (Hard Sell)
-Reviewing television content for the Guide TV highlights
