📖 Summary
I am interested in the challenge of getting insight into complex problems through data-driven models, and designing and building the Big Data infrastructure to scale those models . For my PhD work, I aggregated data from heterogeneous and noisy data sources to get insight into the dynamics of contaminants at site polluted by radioactive waste. I dealt with spatial models, outlier detection in timeseries and a lot of data wrangling/clean up work upstream. I am currently a fellow at Insight Data Science in Data Engineering, where I learnt about the Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, MapReduce Framework, Pig, Hive, Hbase), and other Big Data technologies : Cassandra, Kafka, Storm, Cascalog. Specialties: Data Management and Analysis, Big data, Hadoop Ecosystem, R and Python. Environmental + Spatial statistical modeling, Environmental Engineering.Data Engineer @ From December 2014 to Present (1 year 1 month) Staff Member @ Technical support, administration From May 2006 to Present (9 years 8 months) Insight Data Engineering Fellow @ - Developed a data pipeline to query Wikipedia edit history and provide visualization (http://wikihub.info while my AWS cluster is up) - Learnt about Hadoop, Cassandra, HBase, Storm, Kafka, Spark, Lambda architecture. - Connected with 40+ other fellow data engineers/scientists From September 2014 to November 2014 (3 months) Graduate Student Researcher @ From May 2008 to August 2014 (6 years 4 months) Guest Graduate Student Researcher @ I provided insight from a domain scientist perspective on a data management platform for the ASCEM project ( http://esd.lbl.gov/research/projects/ascem/ ). I worked as a junior database developer (MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL), then lead developer and maintainer of the the ETL process aggregating data from two DOE sites (Savannah River and Hanford) into the ASCEM data management platform. I developed tutorials for MongoDB and Hadoop (provided slides to speaker and wrote the hands on part) for a LBL workshop in July 2012. I also designed configuration packages for 30 laptops used during the tutorial sessions. From September 2011 to December 2012 (1 year 4 months) Graduate Student Instructor @ I led class discussions (30-50 students) and provided original materials for review sessions for an introductory hydrology class. From January 2010 to June 2010 (6 months) Guest Graduate Student Researcher @ Performed Exploratory Data Analysis on geostatistical and environmental monitoring data, leading to new insights into the mechanisms at play at a contaminated site at the Savannah River Site. From January 2009 to December 2009 (1 year) Graduate Student Researcher @ From August 2007 to May 2008 (10 months) Research Intern @ Research on algal ecology and factors influencing algal growth in an open irrigation channel in southern France. From April 2007 to July 2007 (4 months) M.S./Ph.D. ABD, Environmental Engineering @ University of California, Berkeley From 2007 to 2014 Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Engineering Science, Mathematics, Biomathematics @ Ecole polytechnique From 2004 to 2008 Baccalauréat, Série Scientifique @ Lycée Louis-Le-Grand From 1999 to 2002 Collège Fénelon Ste-Marie From 1995 to 1999 Arthur Wiedmer is skilled in: Python, R, Data Analysis, Apache Hive, Data Engineering, Hadoop, Big Data, Statistics, Data Science, Environmental Engineering, SQL, Apache Pig, Apache Spark, Research, Science
