VP of Product Development / Software Engineering, across a range of technologies, platforms and markets. Senior management team background in public, VC-backed and private companies, established and start-up, with additional experience across broader activities including funding, technical due diligence, organizational structure, M&A and both technical and commercial partnerships. A builder, manager and leader of exceptional software engineering teams, often built from scratch with rapid scaling but also building on existing teams. A strong belief that excellence, integrity and fun are fundamental characteristics of a successful working environment and that creating great software products and technology, reliably, requires getting the team and the environment right above all else. Happy with most flavours of software with a current leaning towards the consumer mobile space.Advisory Board Member @ From September 2015 to Present (4 months) London, United KingdomVP Product Development @ SwiftKey builds technologies to help people create and communicate on mobile, using Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning principles. SwiftKey has been named one of the top 10 most innovative mobile company in the world by Fast Company and is currently ranked Wired's No 1 hottest startup in London. Its world-class keyboard software and innovative culture have led to a clutch of major awards including the Europas Grand Prix prize, Appsters Champion award and a Meffy for innovation. The SwiftKey Keyboard, became free in mid-2014 after two years as Google Play's biggest-selling paid app globally. SwiftKey Keyboard for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch had more than 1m downloads in its first day of launching on the App Store, hitting No 1 in the US and UK free charts. Swiftkey input technology currently runs on more than 250 million devices. As VP Product Development, I scaled the engineering team from 8 to roughly 80 over a three year period, building on core competencies around natural language processing, machine learning and Android app development and adding capabilities for big data, cloud and iOS development, amongst others, adding structure and process as necessary. Multiple releases of the original SwiftKey Keyboard for Android phones were made, also a Cloud based store and ecosystem for backup and synchronization across multiple devices and to support in-app purchasing. We released our first products on iOS. Core technology releases were made to handset manufacturers enabling them to build keyboards utilizing SwiftKey AI prediction and correction solutions.
