I am currently a Principal Solutions Architect at Cloudera Inc. Prior to this, I was a developer on the Elastic MapReduce team at Amazon Web Services. My areas of interest are Distributed Systems, Information Retrieval & Data Mining.
I'm also the co-author of HBase in Action, a book on building applications backed by HBase. (http://www.manning.com/dimidukkhurana)
Specialties: Distributed Systems, Scalable backend systems, Hadoop, HBase, Solr, Java, Python.
Dabbled with Weka, Lemur, Lucene, Haskell, Google Go and Ruby in the past.
Principal Solutions Architect @ As a Principal Solutions Architect, I spend my time as an SME resource for customers as well as our internal technical teams (field, product, engineering, partner engineering, support) as and when required.
As a part of this role, I helped bootstrap our initiative to enable deployments in the cloud (started with AWS) and enabled some of our early customers deploy. I continue to provide support and guidance to our internal teams as and when required.
Currently, I'm focussed on distilling learnings from the field and build solutions and offerings to deliver to Cloudera's customers. This includes using tools and services that our partners provide.
Apart from the above, I assist our field team and customers during complex deployments and also help scale up the team - hiring, on-boarding and mentoring. From August 2013 to Present (2 years 5 months) Senior Solutions Architect @ In addition to working with customers on building solutions on top of the Hadoop stack, I helped scale up the field team, which included hiring, on-boarding and mentoring new members of the team. I was also involved in overseeing multiple different projects that were delivered by the team and supported them with whatever was required from a technical architecture and implementation stand point. From May 2013 to July 2013 (3 months) Solutions Architect @ Work with customers on the entire lifecycle of their Hadoop ecosystem adoption - from figuring out how Hadoop can help them to architecting a solution and taking it to production. As a part of my role, I got a chance to work on several different kinds of use cases and data management solutions across different customers.
Co-author of HBase In Action (www.manning.com/dimidukkhurana) From August 2011 to May 2013 (1 year 10 months) Software Development Engineer, Elastic MapReduce @ Worked on various aspects of making Hadoop deployments in the cloud reliable, efficient and easy to use. Also responsible for operations of the service during on-call rotations. From June 2010 to July 2011 (1 year 2 months) Greater Seattle AreaGraduate Student Researcher - Services Technology R&D @ Involved in prototyping new technologies and ideas that can
enable a multi data source coalescing and pattern mining system (project Galaxy). I have been responsible for setting up and managing a Hadoop and HBase instance for the backend of project Galaxy. I was involved in the design and development of a prototype system (based on Hadoop and HBase) that can bring together data from multiple data sources and build a graph to expose connections between data points. This was done for structured data sources and allowed for full text search on the graph involving ranking using HRJN operators. From December 2008 to June 2010 (1 year 7 months) Introduction Leader @ Lead introduction seminars to the Landmark Forum. From April 2008 to August 2008 (5 months) Design Analyst @ As a Design Analyst, I was responsible for capturing the business requirements of the clients and translating them into a technical design that has to be implemented by the development team. I was also involved in analyzing the software architectures and optimizing them.
My role also required me to support the QA team in effectively testing the software. From July 2007 to April 2008 (10 months) R&D Engineer @ Worked on a market leading Network Management Framework, NETeXPERT as a part of the team responsible for implementation of a management solution for IP networks. Solutions is based on a java based distributed framework, oracle based object oriented network model and SNMP based protocol agents.
Developed a training plan for fresh graduates joining Agilent Technologies in 2007 From July 2006 to July 2007 (1 year 1 month) Intern @ Worked as a part of the Incisive Formal Verifier R&D team. My main responsibilities were to design, develop, automate and manage the regression testing system, performance & benchmarking system, and the internal implementation systems of Rational Purify and Quantify.
I was also responsible for the development of scripts and testing environments for the R&D and the PV teams of IFV. From January 2005 to July 2005 (7 months) Intern @ Was a part of the IT Support team. My role involved installation and support for Unix based as well as Windows based workstations and servers. I was also involved in administering the internal network of the company. From June 2003 to July 2003 (2 months)
MS, Computer Science @ University of California, Santa Cruz From 2008 to 2010 Bachelor of Engineering, Electronics & Communication @ Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology From 2002 to 2006 AISSE, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science @ Delhi Public School - R. K. Puram From 1995 to 2002 Amandeep Khurana is skilled in: Hadoop, Distributed Systems, HBase, MapReduce, Scalability, Big Data, Cloud Computing, Java, Ruby, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Unix, Amazon Web Services, Algorithms, Linux, Software Development
