Alex was born in China and lived in Beijing until the age of twelve. His fluency in speaking, reading, and writing Mandarin has opened many doors for him in work opportunities and meeting new people since coming to the United States. Intrigued by the ever-changing world of information technology, Alex currently studies computer science at Boston University. He has taken courses in cyber security, web application development, algorithmic design, probabilities in computing, and artificial intelligence. Alex enjoys coding in Java and Python, as well as building end-to-end applications with MongoDB, Express, AngularJS, and Node.js. In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, Alex is enrolled in the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program where his leadership, character, and discipline are honed. At the Lawrence Livermore National Lab, Alex is a Cyber Defender and a Computation Scholar. He is mentored by computer scientist Tony Bartoletti and works for the Department of Energy’s Cyber Analytics Team. This summer, Alex aims to develop an application that streamlines the defense of Department of Energy networks by better detecting and mitigating malware infections and other malicious activities. In his free time, Alex enjoys bodybuilding and a variety of sports. He loves volunteering as well as partaking in entrepreneurship projects. During the winter months, Alex stays in Florida with his family to enjoy endless sunshine and beautiful beaches.
