Interested in technologies and businesses that fundamentally change things.
Grew up in Beijing/New Zealand/Australia. A citizen of the world. Started programming at age 7.
Inference Engineer @ https://scaledinference.com/index.html From June 2015 to Present (7 months) Founder, Software Engineer @ This company does a few other random things, such as cloud point-of-sale systems (potatos.cc) and cloud printing systems (printos.io). From June 2012 to Present (3 years 7 months) Software Engineer (Machine Learning Research) @ Worked with machine learning research team as part of Google Strategic Technology (ST) group.
Primarily working on large-scale inference and visualization of latent variable models, specifically:
- Algorithm design & implementation for inference and sampling at both small (single machine) and large scale (thousands of machines and TB of data), and related problems (e.g parameter synchronisation strategy)
- Design and implementation of visualisation, logging, monitoring, and debugging tools
- Integration to a system that is widely used in major Google products (search, advertising, G+, etc.)
- Daily experimentation with thousands of machines using real user data (GB to TB scale)
- Wrote 20000 lines of code in 3 months
- Received "superb" feedback and evaluation from colleagues From May 2014 to August 2014 (4 months) Research Engineer @ Worked with a research team in Machine Learning Group on the product "Opinion Watch", an interactive document analysis and exploration platform.
- Designed a new version of the product that is capable of comparing two groups of text datasets
- Integrated my own GPU-based topic model algorithms into the platform
- Worked with the team, redesigned and re-implemented major APIs and components in modelling, data ingestion, and some visualisation components.
- Designed and implemented a new visualisation for comparative topic models.
- Presented in Techfest 2013, an event opened by Prime Minister Julia Gillard, at Parliament House. Received substantial interest from government agencies and the industry. From November 2012 to February 2013 (4 months) Canberra, AustraliaTutor (Artificial Intelligence, Differential Equation and Advanced Vector Calculus) @ COMP6320/3620 Artificial Intelligence, graduate level AI computer science course
- topics covered: searching, knowledge inference, planning, learning
- designed automated AI tools for grading. The tool was used by many tutors in the following years.
MATH2305 Differential Equation and Advanced Vector Calculus
Also received invitation to be a tutor of:
MATH2406: Maths Methods 2 Honours: Partial Differential Equations, Fourier Analysis and Complex Analysis From January 2012 to June 2012 (6 months)
Master’s Degree, Computer Science (researching in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) @ Carnegie Mellon University From 2013 to 2015 Bachelor’s Degree, quadruply majored in Computer Science Double (AI + Machine Learning), Mathematics, and Statistics, First Class Honours @ The Australian National University Aaron Li is skilled in: Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms, Distributed Systems, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Research, Big Data, Start-ups, Programming, Scalability, Software Engineering, Statistics
